On the approach to the Shrine
Tokugawa Ieyasu(1542-1616) was the first shogun of the Edo Shogunate, who was both a famous and important figure in Japanese history. He succeeded in unifying Japan in 1603 and established the foundation of Japan's peace and stability during the Edo period(1603-1867). After his death, according to his will, Nikko Toshogu, which is world-famous, was built in 1617. In Ueno Park, another Toshogu was built in 1627. This shrine is also dedicated to the spirit of deified Tokugawa Ieyasu. Even in the central Tokyo, original shrine buildings remain intact despite the earthquakes and World War Ⅱ air raids. It's miraculous. In my tour, Former Residence of Great Artist in Yanaka & Ueno Free Tour, you can visit it as a optional one. Why don't you join me?
