Lake Toya and Mt. Usu(737m) have a co-relationship.
Both were made by volcanic activity. Lake Toya is a caldera lake. And after the lake was formed, Mt. Usu was also formed.
Thanks to this Mt. Usu, Lake Toya became one of famous hot spring area, and beautiful panoramic spot in Hokkaido.
To come to Lake Toya, using JR and bus or chartering a taxi is the best. If you use the JR Line, you have to get off at Toya Station and transfer to the bus to Lake Toya Onsen Town. The JR Line from Sapporo to Toya takes 2 hours, and the bus takes 15 minutes. The bus starts to move in accordance with the JR arrival time.
To visit Mt. Usu, you can book a taxi from Lake Toya Onsen Town or bus (4 times a day).
