It was fifty-one years ago.....

Enoshima Island was the Olympic harbor for the 1964 Summer Olympics. The site is located on the east side of the island and you can enjoy strolling around the area and feel the excitement of the days.

The perfect place for the event

Enoshima Island is located a little off shore from the beach in Fujisawa city. Surrounded by clean sea water of Sagami Bay and with Mt. Fuji viewed in the distance, the island sure will be the perfect place for the games and welcome people from all over the world!

Bamboo Temple, Sugimoto Temple, and three other attractive spots in Kamakuracover image

Bamboo Temple, Sugimoto Temple, and three other attractive spots in Kamakura

Kamakura
6 hours

Once the samurai capital of Japan, Kamakura is visited by as many as 20 million people a year. Some of the most popular spots among visitors are Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, Great Buddha, and Hokokuji Temple nicknamed Bamboo Temple. On this tour, along with the three places, I would like to offer two more attractive spots to visit. We first visit three places in the north-eastern area of Kamakura, Bamboo Temple, popular for its bamboo glove with a teahouse serving powdered green tea, Sugimoto Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Kamakura dating back to the 8th century, Egara Tenjin, a shinto shrine enshrining deified Sugawara Michizane, the god of learning and scholarship. We take a bus to visit Bamboo Temple, but after that we enjoy strolling around the local residential areas while visiting two other places and the fourth destination, Tsurugaoka Hachiman Srine which was constructed by the first Shogun of the Kamakura Government. After coming back to Kamakura station, we take the Enoden Line to Hase station to visit the last destination, Great Buddha, an open-air Buddha sitting under the sun for some 750 years. This tour covers history of Kamakura from much before the establishment of the samurai government to just after the end of it, and of course, shopping in Komachi-dori street and at Masamune Sword and Blade Workshop by request.

Walking tour to four popular places in Kamakura, Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, Zeniarai-Benten, Sasucover image

Walking tour to four popular places in Kamakura, Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, Zeniarai-Benten, Sasu

Kamakura
5 hours

Would you like to become rich in Kamakura? Zeniarai Benten, or Money-washing Benten is a unique place in Kamakura, where you can wash your coins or bills with sacred water of a fountain in a cave. The legend says, if you spend some of the money washed there, it might be doubled! Want to give it a try? Along with Zeniarai Benten, we will visit Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine, which is historically and geographically in the center of Kamakura and one of the most visited shrines in Japan, and Kotokuin Temple, where Great Buddha, a symbol of Kamakura with its original appearence remaining pretty much intact, is waiting for you. And one more spot, Sasuke Inari Shrine with many red torii gates on its approach will take you deep into Kamakura. On our way visiting those places, we will also enjoy dropping by a variety of souvenir shops on Komachi-dori shopping street and strolling around the quiet residential areas of Kamakura. As this tour is entirely on foot, wearing a pair of comfortable walking shoes would be recommended on your visit. Why don't we take a walk and enjoy the serene atmosphere of an ancient capital of Kamakura together!

Kamakura's three major spots and the great ocean views from Inamuragasakicover image

Kamakura's three major spots and the great ocean views from Inamuragasaki

Kamakura
5 hours

Kamakura was once the capital of Japan where the first "samurai" government was established in the end of the twelfth century. Today the city draws as many as twenty million visitors a year as one of the must visit places in Japan. On this tour we'll visit three most popular spots, Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine which was constructed by the first shogun Minamoto no Yoritomo, Great Buddha which has been sitting under the sun over the centuries and nicknamed " an open-air Buddha", and Hase Temple, the second oldest temple in Kamakura enshrining the tall wooden statue of eleven-headed Hase Kannon in sparkling gold . After that we'll take the Enoden Line to Inamuragasaki station, which is two stops away from Hase station, to enjoy the great views of Sagami Bay, where you can see Enoshima Island, and if you are lucky, together with Mt.Fuji.

One day in Kamakura and Enoshima Island using Enoden Line cover image

One day in Kamakura and Enoshima Island using Enoden Line

Kamakura
7 hours

On this tour, in the morning, we'll visit Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine which was founded by the first shogun of the first military government in Japanese history, and Great Buddha, which was constructed in the 13th century and is a symbol of Kamakura with a tender smile on its face. Then we'll take the Enoden Line, one of the most famous and characterful local railways in Japan, to Enoshima station. A little walk from the station is Enoshima Island, an island of the legend of a dragon and sea goddess, with three tutelary shrines for three goddesses of marine transportation, fishing, and traffic. The island has recently been very popular among many young couples as a power spot as well. On top of the island we can climb up on a lighthouse with a nickname of Sea Candle, the best scenary lookout to view the ocean and the coast line of Sagami Bay, and if you are lucky, Mt. Fuji!!
