Chinese character, 八(hachi) for eight is in the shape of two doves
On the main gate of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the frame in which three chinese characters are written is put up. Are you aware of something interesting? Do you wonder why the chinese character 八 for eight is designed in the shape of two doves? I think this lettering design is a good one. Doves have long been considered to be messengers of Hachimangu. Besides that, Hachimangu is believed to be the god of war and in addition, doves were often described as birds of victory in old stories. That's why a well-known confectionery in Kamakura is in the shape of doves. The story is to be carried with in my tour, Kamakura History & neighboring area excursion. Why don't you join me?
