Autumun Flowers in Kamakura ( 1 )
In autumn, colored leaves are very popular, but many kinds of flowers bloom beautifully, too. Last week, I found some flowers at temples and shrines in Kamakura.
This is Japanese toad lily called 'Hototogisu' in Japanese. Hototogisu means a little cuckoo. It is said to be named because dots of the flower is similar to the feather pattern of cuckoo's chest.
It is in full bloom from October through November. I saw it at Hiruko Jinja Shrine and found it so sweet! Hototogisu is a very pretty flower and often decorated in the tea ceremony room.
