The Monastic Center of True World Esoteric Buddhism
On May 10 2018 I took one lady from USA to Koyasan. It was very fine and we could see a beautiful lush green landscape. Koyasan or Mt.Koya, was found about 1,200 years ago by Kobo Daishi (Kukai). Koyasan was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List as "Sacred Sited and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range" in 2004.
Koyasan has three sacred places; Danjo Garan, Kongobuji Temple, and Okunoin.
Danjo Garan
Konpon Daito is the typical example of Danjo garan. Three dimensional mandalas are inside the stupa.
Kukai is said to have lived and used for meditation here in Mieido.
The Western Stupa stands 27 meters high amongst giant cedar trees
Kongobuji Temple
is the headquarters of Shingon sect among about 4,000 branch temples. The roof is covered with Japanese cypress bark and you see on the top of the roof with two rain barrels for fireproofs.
Okunoin
More than 200,000 grave stones stand in lines between the trees.
The Mausoleum of Matsudaira family of Echizen.
It was built in 1604.
