The main street in Kakunodate Samurai District was designed in 1620, and amazingly the width of the street has remained the same since. Behind the black walls, there remains six Samurai residences, including the Ishiguro Samurai Residence and Aoyagi Samurai Residence which are open to public (for fee). Among those six residences, one of my favorite places is the garden (admission free) at Kawarada Samurai Residence which is connected through the garden to Odano Samurai Residence.
These two photos were taken on September 23, 2017: Main Street in Kakunodate Samurai District and the garden at Kawarada Samurai Residence.
