blog imageToday I’d like to introduce “the must-see” point in Wakkanai.
This is “Seto-Tei”, Mr. Seto’s former residence. It is a ten-minute walk from Wakkani station. In 2013, it was added to the “Registry of Tangible Cultural Property.”
This building was the residence of Mr. Seto, who was renowned for trawler fishing enterprise in Wakkani.
From the 1940’s to 1970’s, as an important port of trawl fisheries, Wakknai city was full of energy and many people gathered here from all over Japan.
In 1952, this residence, now a museum, was built for Mr. Seto, a trawler-boat captain.
Since 2013, it has been opened with free admission from April to October.
You can feel the glory days of Wakkani inside the residence.
The first picture is the room where parties, such as wedding or New Year’s celebrations were held.
You can visit the residence during our "Northernmost Japanese Kimono Walking Tour" ! Then participants can also have the privilege to learn the different Japanese etiquette from a native teacher.
