A remote village named Oouchijyuku
5 years ago, I went to a old remote village named Oouchijyuku in the southwestern part of Fukushima prefecture. The center street in the village is lined with old thatched-roof houses which include Soba restaurants, souvenior shops and so on. While walking, eating and relaxing, I immersed myself in samurai movie-like setting. Although this place is rather incovenient to reach, it is worth visiting. Spending a few hours in the village is sure to be memorable in a trip to Japan. However, in holiday seasons such as Obon in the mid-August and Golden week from Apr. 29 to May 5, the road to this place is very crowded because it has become a popular tourist spot. Furthermore, in winter, as the area around here has extremely heavy snowfalls, it is difficult to access there. It still has the atmosphere like off the beaten track. I recommend you visit such a place. Enjoy your trip to Japan!
