This is Hamochi Oichi, year-end market with an unique twist!
This market had usually held on Dec.15 mostly for farmers after receiving the year's income.
But it was held on Dec.13, Sunday, to attract many shoppers this year.
Disguised as deities or warrior or retired maiko?, shopowners worked hard to entertain shoppers.
This main street used to be bustled with many shoppers, but time changes...
Even in Sado, there are many outlets of big chains like Matsukiyo and Shimamura with attractive prices and varieties.
But I perfer this nostalgic atmosphere.
Have you ever seen "street" puppet play?
In Sado, now almost extinct traditonal performing arts still exist. One of them is called Bunya Ningyo, similar to famous
Bunraku Puppet Play, with one puppeteer manipulate one puppet. It's quite surprising that younger generations like this
narrator (young woman) are the member of this troupe called Mushimon-za.
I'd like to introduce all about Sado from now on through this blog because Sado is sooo deep and diverse!
See you later!
