Of course we have super heros, well ... no, mascots on Sado Island!
Apparently fish? No, he is " Burikatsu-kun " or " deep-fried yellowtail fillet cutlet ". Sado is blessed with abundant catches of
sea products and yellowtail is one of the main catches in winter. That's why he is representing Sado as a local speciality.
"burikatsu-don" or yellowtail cutlet bowl has been popular for both locals and tourists.
Cute-faced guy... He is " Ondeko-chan ". Looks cute but he is the messanger of gods. Ondeko or demon dance is unique to Sado
and very famous for tourists. There are about 120 communities performing Ondeko on shrine festivals with more than 250
demons! No wonder he is representing demons in Sado.
Where you can spot them? They often appear on events such as "Ondeko.com" in late May.
Please come to Sado and take selfies with them!
