Another temple seen in the distance through the pine tree ring
In the Edo period(1603-1867), the current Ueno Park was entirely the precinct of Kaneiji Temple. After the civil war in 1868 burned down most of the temple buildings, the old site of Kaneiji Temple was developed into the public park. However, there are still remnants of the temple in the past. The photo above was taken from Kiyomizu Kannon-Do, which was built in 1631 as one of the subtemples. This ring-shaped pine tree is a 2012 revival whose original one was broken by a typhoon in the Meiji period(1868-1912). The original one was depicted in Ukiyo-e by a famous painter named Hiroshige Utagawa. This Ukiyo-e are put on around here. It is called Tsuki no Matsu which literally means Moon Pine Tree. Ueno park has many attractions and sightseeing spots. Why don't you join me?
