The Metropolitan Express Highway over the bridge
Nihonbashi is designated as the Important Cultural Property. It was built in 1911. This bridge became the starting point of main highways one year after Tokugawa Shogunate started in 1603. Although Tokugawa Shogunate was overthrown in 1867, even today this bridge is still the starting point of main roads. At the foot of the bridge, the milestone which indicates each distance to each major city is set up, for example, it is 503 km far to Kyoto from there. In that meaning, Nihonbashi is the center in Japan. I worked at the office in Nihonbashi for more than 30 years. If you are interested in the Nihonbashi district, I would like to make your itinerary. Why don't you join me?
