Re: The Summer Festival Days of JIZO (地蔵) Who Loves Children Have Just Started from Today (22nd to 25th of Aug.)
One of our most favorite events in the summer holidays in our childhood was to visit the nearest town of KINOMOTO (木之本) in late of August, when they held the festival of JIZO (the most popular local Buddha in Japan; 縁日). They opened so many stalls (no less than 150!) along the approach to the temple, which attracted us a lot, ...toy stores, mom-and-pop candy stores, and more....good old days. They say that the festival at a small town of Kinomoto, in northern district of Lake Biwa is one of the 3 biggest in Japan. Many stallkeepers were preparing their temporary store houses today under the hottest late summer sun.. (I'm worried the influence of coming big typhoon of the 20th.)
