Let's learn Japanese instrument Koto at cozy Kyo-machiya house! Koto, Japanese traditional instrument, seems difficult to play and try for beginners. However, at Soushunan, the lesson by the professional instructor enables you to play one song in 80min.

“Wonderful experience”
A great experience for anyone with any interest in koto, japanese music, or music of any kind. The teacher and her daughter were very friendly, good at teaching, and spoke English quite well. We were first taught the basic form and details about the koto, followed by learning 2 songs. After some practice, the teacher plays a duet with you and you get several tries. After the allotted time, I asked the teacher for a performance and she was happy to oblige. She played a wonderful advanced version of the first song we were taught. She also spent some time afterwards explaining some of the history of her family and Soushunan, and we had a nice conversation while having tea and snacks. I was able to book the session through this website only a day in advance with no difficulty. If I'm ever in Kyoto again I will try to come back to learn some more difficult pieces.
“Awesome experience by patient and friendly teachers”
Four of us with varied musical instrument experience accomplished a simple but well known Japanese song. It was a privilege to play this instrument and while it is harder than it looks it is a lot of fun and connects you more closely to the culture. We highly recommend!
