“A little disappointment”
There is no doubt that Toshiyo is very knowledgeable. We may have had excessive expectations after reading the many praises. But we found a passive guide with somewhat poor human relations. It may be a matter of cultural differences or she was having a bad day.

(235 reviews)Thank you for having me as a guide and writing me the review. In this high season the places have been full of people and I concentrated on navigating the less crowded and less stressful route. I hope you enjoyed Kyoto and our culture. Thank you for coming here. Regards. Toshiyo

“Fantastic Guide”
Lisa W was the best guide we have ever had. Over 5 days she showed us around Kyoto, Osaka, Himeji, and Nara. Her knowledge of each place we visited was brilliant as was her English. Lisa has a very calm temperament and a good sense of humour which was perfect for a group of 8 Australians. She got to know us all very well and was always willing to help. Lisa W is the perfect guide - you could not find anyone better.
“Absolute wonderful ????”
Yoshi greeted us with h a smile and a gift of origami that his lovely wife made for us. We headed on the Golden route for a day of jaw dropping temples, serene gardens and hidden gems. A delicious lunch of ramen refuelled us for the afternoon. We walked around 15kms and caught local train lines. Learnt about the history of Japan geographically and also some the of the arts and poetry that Yoshi was very fond of. It was delightful! We were sad to part and our family of 5 (including 3 teenage sons) loved spending time with Yoshi. We recommend you take at least $300 cash (for a family our size) for temple entries (about $20-30 each temple), lunch, souvenirs etc. and don’t forget your Goshuinchou book for temple stamps for a precious keepsake. We highly recommend this full day out with Yoshi :)

Unlock the mysteries of Kyoto with a local tour guide! From temples in Gion to lush gardens in Arashiyama, discovering Kyoto’s global appeal is one click away.
Ready to cool off from the day’s heat and high activity? Book a tour to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, a mesmerizing forest of towering bamboo stalks. While a popular destination, private tour guides can lead you off the beaten path to explore lesser-known trails and rest stops, allowing you and your travel team to escape the crowds and rest in the peaceful ambiance of the grove.
Beyond the visual appeal, your Kyoto tour guide can share stories about the significance of bamboo in Japanese culture overall, and help you gain appreciation for Arashiyama's natural beauty in a more intimate way.
