Korekawa Jomon Museum and Oyu Stone Circles
Following the end of the Ice Age, the Jomon Period began in Japan around 13,000 years B. C. and lasted 10,000 years. Aomori Prefecture, together with the prefectures of
Hokkaido, Akita and Iwate hope for the inclusion of 17 Jomon prehistoric sites in northern Japan as world cultural heritage sites. Come visit the fabulous Jomon museum of Korekawa in Hachinohe and Oyu Stone Circles in Akita. Korekawa and Oyu sites are among those 17 Jomon prehistoric sites.

Korekawa Jomon Museum, Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture
Korekawa Jomon Museum houses artifacts unearthed from the Korekawa Stone Age sites in Korekawa area in Hachinohe City, Aomori. The museum has one national treasure clay figurine with clasped hands, called Gassho Dogu, and one of the largest collections of lacquered clay and wooden pots, and lacquered baskets. The museum also has a large collection, Izumiyama Collection, of snow-goggle eyed clay figurines and Kamegaoka style pots and vessels.

Lunch. The cafe is named after Takko Town's sister city, Gilroy, California, because both cities are known for production of garlic.
Oyu Stone Circles, Kazuno, Akita Prefecture
Visit two large scale stone circles of Jomon Period, about 2,000 to 1,500 years B.C. The center of the two circle stones and the sundial-like collection of stones form a line that points toward the sunset on the summer solstice. Many ritual tools such as clay figurines, have been unearthed, which you can see in the exhibition hall.

Korekawa Jomon Museum is closed on Mondays.
Oyu Stone Circles are closed during the winter; December to April.
