Following the end of the Ice Age, the Jomon Period began in Japan around 13,000 years B. C. and lasted 10,000 years. Aomori Prefecture, together with the prefectures of Hokkaido, Akita and Iwate aim for the inclusion of 17 Jomon prehistoric sites in northern Japan as world cultural heritage sites. With this tour, you can visit Japan's largest Jomon site, Sannai Maruyama Site in Aomori City, and after lunch, go off to Takayama Inari Shrine which is known for its thousand Torii gates.
Your hotel in Aomori City.
Sannai Maruyama Site is Japan's largest Jomon prehistoric settlement. First, we walk in the reconstructed Jomon settlement, seeing reconstructed pit dwellings, pillar-supported buildings and mounds containing a 1,000 year long cross-section of the soil. You can understand how Jomon people lived there during the Jomon period of 3,900 B.C. to 2,200 B.C. After the outdoor activity, you can visit the small museum where artifacts unearthed in Sannai Maruyama Site are exhibited. Then, you can experience making your own pendant, scraping and polishing a stone. We will have lunch in a restaurant next to the museum.
Takayama Inari Shrine is believed to originate sometime during the period of the 12th and 16th centuries. It is known for its thousand Torii gates built on the hillside, attracting many visitors and worshipers to see beautiful sceneries.

“Wonderful Trip!!!”
Akiko was amazing -- she customized this trip for my client and despite flooding made arrangements for her to see everything she wanted to see. She made special arrangements for her to see a shrine (the main purpose of the trip ) when the road was closed and the shrine was closed - she got her in anyway!! Per my client - she was worth every yen!! Thanks for making the a special trip.

(12 reviews)Becky, Safety was the most important under such weather conditions. I was so happy that your client could enjoy several spots in the city, and visit the shrine, and depart Akita earlier. We found out at the airport that her original flight had been canceled. I hope she enjoyed the rest of her stay in Japan! Best regards to her. Thank you! Akiko

“Excellent tour ”
Akiko ran an excellent tour with everything very well organised, with plenty of useful material to help along the way. Akiko went above and beyond in identifying excellent additional places we could visit along the way. Akiko has exceptional knowledge of the local area and history, and was able to communicate this very effectively in English and help translate as needed.
