Welcome to the Exotic City, Yokohama
Since the restoration to change Japan to one of the modern states occurred in 1868, the port city of Yokohama played an important role to lead Japan in the field of business as well as in adoption of western culture. Silk trade conducted through Yokohama port brought enormous wealth to Japan. Yokohama has now become the second largest city in Japan, but the history so far has been so turbulent.
Meeting Point
Sakuragicho station of JR Keihintohoku line
Sakuragicho station. It is one of the stations of Keihintohoku line which is in service between Omiya and Ofuna.
Sakuragicho station. The station is historically very much important station. Almost ten years later after the restoration took place in Japan, the new railway was laid down from Shinbashi station of Tokyo to Sakuragicho station in Yokohama. It was a significant event in the Japanese history, in that Japan chose the way of westernization, waiving feudalistic establishment deeply inherent up to that time. With the increasing number of foreign vistors to Japan though Yokohama port, Sakuragicho station began to acquire much greater importance. just after 17 years after the laying down of the railway between Shinbshi and Yokohama, Tokaido railway running between Sinbashi and Kobe was completed. We can know from this that Sakuragicho station contributed a lot for the modenization of Japan.
Minato Mirai area (Port Future area )
It is a newly developed area constructed along the coastal area of Yokohama by landfill. When you visit the area, it will evoke a picture card to you by its beautiful scenery. extended wide toward the see. In 1989, the exposition titled "YES'89" was held there in commemoration of the completion of the Minato Mirai area, as well as for the celebration of 100th anniversary of the municipal system of Yokohama City and 130th anniversary of the port opening of Yokohama.
Silk Center
Silk played an important role in the history of Yokohama. The center was built to convey the historical importance of the silk to the descendants who are almost ignorant of it. The exhibition hall introduces the Yokohama which flourished by the business transaction of silk. The silk materials including row material as well as silk products were exported from Yokohama port to USA and European countries. In 1870s, the exporting of silk products accounted for 80% of the national income of Japan.
Yomashita
In 1923, a very big earthquake occurred in Yokohama, by which almost of the buildings were collapsed. For the reconstruction of City, the disposal and removal of the debris and rubbles was the urgent matter for Yokohama, hence the planning of the construction of Yamashita park, as the disposal area for the stuff brought about by the earthquake. It is now the place for the Yokohama citizens to enjoy holidays. Near there is located the hotel named Hotel New Grand, the first hotel constructed in a western style. You will see also a very much gorgeous passenger ship named "Hikawamaru" near there, which was in service between Yokohama and Seatle in the so-called golden age of travel by passenger ships.
Plan A: Sankeien Park. It is located in the east south of Yokohama. It is located in the vicinity of the sea of Yokohama.
Mr. Hara made a fortune by silk trade. He was not only a business man, but also an artist. Later he came to an idea of constructing a big garden, where he could invite his friends as well as many artists who represented Japan at that time. The garden is very much unique because of the collections exhibited in the garden being characteristic in the point focused in antique and well-known constructions representing Japanese tradition. For example, one of the collections is traditional villa which was used by a feudal lord of Japan. You can't see such kind of garden in other areas of Japan.
Plan B: Yokohama hillside & China town OR: Exploration trip of Noge down town area, which represents the red lantern quarter of Yokohama
Yokohama hillside area is a very much unique area in that it was opened as a foreigners' settlement for those who visited Yokohama in the port-opening age of Yokohama. The area still maintains an atmosphere of a high-class residential area in Yokohama. Of course, the price of the houses is very much expensive. After visiting the hillside area, we will go down to the China town. The China town located in Yokohama is the biggest in the scale in Japan.
In the visiting to Noge downtown area, you would be able to know how the salaried workers of Yokohama spend so-called after five.

Inclusions & Exclusions
Guide fee: 20000yen up to 5 persons of a family group. In case the number of the participants will be more than 6, the additional charge will be differently treated between the family members and non-family members.
In the case that the additional participants will be the family members, it will be 3000yen per person. But, in the case that the additional participants will be
non-family members, it will be 5000yen per person.
As already mentioned, the meeting place will be Sakuragicho station of JR Keihintohoku line. But, if you want me to pick you up at some hotel in Tokyo, you will be asked to pay another 2000yen to cover transportation to go from Yokohama to/from Tokyo to picking you up there. And also if you need me to send you back to Tokyo after the tour, additional payment of 2000yen will be requested.
Bus fare from Chukagai to Sankeien : @220yen per person for one way. 440yen for round trip

Admission fee for Sankeien Park:
700yen per person(above high school students)
200yen for students of junior high school and elementary school
Tour Important Information
・The tour will be conducted fundamentally by walking all the way from beginning to the ending to enjoy scenery which will come into sight on the way. Public transportation, bus will only be used for the trip to/ from Sankeien Park. As for the walking tour, it will not be burdensome even for aged people. I am sure from the experience I had before with the guiding of an old woman of Philipine, the tour itself was no problem with her.

“Exceptional Tour Guide”
Mr. Choyo Tanaka was an awesome guide! He was very professional, very friendly, and very patient with us. There was no hurry to get through our set schedule. Instead he moved at our pace. And he was ever mindful of our needs. Constantly checking if we were ok. We visited a few of the tourist hotspots in Tokyo and he was very knowledgeable in sharing the history of each place. We had a great day with Mr. Tanaka and would highly recommend him!

I only try to be a facilitator to introduce Japan and Japanese culture to foreign visitors who visit Japan with a lot of expectation to know inside and outside of Japan. I think the guide do not have sufficient knowledge on the place we are visiting and also the route. It is a waste of my time and should not be allowed to guide to places where he is not familiar. If he need to read the information given at the place of interest, I also can read and I don't need his service. TQ

(3 reviews)Thank you for your review about our two days tour of Nagano. I was careless about skipping the information of Ueda castle to you. It is a long story, but I should have done. And one more, I and my driver feel deeply sorry for being delayed in arriving at the hotel because of making wrong choice of the route on the way back to the hotel.
