The castle is located in the center of Kyoto city and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994. It was originally built in 1603 as the official Kyoto residence of the first Tokugawa Shogun,Ieyasu. Nijo Caslte is one of the finest examples of early Edo period and Momoyama culture in Japan, as it makes splendid use of early Edo period building designs, lavish paintings, and carvings that Iemitsu generously commissioned. In 1867, when Yoshinobu, the fifteenth Tokugawa Shogun returned soverignty to the Emperor, the caslte became the property of the Imperial family. Inside Ninomaru Palace Yoshinobu summoned the coultry's feudal lords and declared that soverignty would be restored to the Emperor. There are two Japanese gardens. You can enjoy the bearutiful scenary.

“Kyoto day visit ”
Toshi was well on time and gave us useful information about the visited points. We could only cover 4 points due to widespread location of the points in the itenary. Toshi was too quick to navigate and felt she was in a rush to complete the tour. The tour lacked planning overall that didn’t allow to complete the intended points.

“Delightful day in Kyoto with Toshiyo ”
Toshiyo skillfully took us around Kyoto’s transport system which ensured we were not daunted without her on the following few days. We visited the Kiyomizu-sera temple, the Sanjusangen-do Buddhist temple and the Motorikyu Nijo castle. Her depth of knowledge about the history and tradition of these sites were very interesting and enhanced our experience greatly. Toshiyo’s English is perfect to the Brit abroad and she was easy to understand even in crowded locations. We will treasure our day with her forever.
