1200 years ago Kukai,after he came back from China,established Shingon(sect) seminary on Mount Koya.There found are two main sacred places such as Okuno-in and Danjo Garan Complex and Kongobuji Temple,headquarters of Shingon Buddhism sect which has 3600 temples existing in all over Japan. Mount Koya comprises 117 temples and is called as city of religion.Mount Koya was designated as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2004.

Using Nankai railway from Nanba,Osaka to Gokurakubashi,a cable car from Gokurakubashi to Koyasan eki(Mount Koya staion) and a local bus from Koyasan eki to Okunoin-guchi takes us about two hours.
Okunoin is a 2km path extending from Okunoin-guchi to Gobyo(Mausoleum).You will be surprised by the feature that there are over 200,000 grave stones of fuedal lords in Japanse long history.In addition legend says that Kukai is still meditation in Gobyo to this day.
We will take vegetarian foods or western at your option.
Shingon(sect) Buddhism seminary wa established by Kukai in this place.Konpon Daido pagoda as a symbol stands in the center at 48m high.In the spacious grounds there are many other halls such as Kondo and Miedo creating a solemn atmosphere.

Within its wide grounds there are many buildings such as the main worship hall and one of the nation's largest rock gardens,Banryutei.
If time allows we will viisit Reihokan museum where various treasures are gathered from whole temples in Mount Koya.More than 28,000 pieces of articles including national treasure and importan cultural treasures designated by country.
