Tour Important Information
Oki Islands are in the Sea of Japan, 70 - 100km away from the Honshu Main Island. Therefore, the transportation to the islands is not convenient. I recommend you will take the ferry service in the morning (around 8:00AM). The departure ports are Sakaiminato (Tottori-prefecture) or Shichirui (Shimane-prefecture). You may have to stay at the town near the ports for the previous night. If you are staying in Tokyo, you can take a flight from Tokyo to Yonago. If you are staying in Kyoto or Osaka, you should take a bus to Yonago at the previous day. You can enjoy various kinds of activities in the islands , but it's up to your time there. Anyway, I could suggest a best plan to you.
This tour is available from April to October.

“An Excellent Day with Shun”
Shun met us at our Cruise Ship in Sakaiminato with a Taxi that he had prearranged for us. We drove to Matsue to visit the historical Matsue Castle and other sites in the Town of Matsue. After a terrific Japanese lunch in a converted Samauri Residence we then traveled on to the Adachi Museum and Gardens. Shun was professional and informative. We enjoyed his company and sense of humor. We learned a great deal about life in Japan from Shun and we will always remember fondly our wonderful day with him.

It was a little surprise for me that you were appreciating Japanese paintings more enthusiastically than gardens at Adachi Museum. In my experience, visitors generally just watch the displays perfunctorily there. I was glad to know that you really understood my, a little, specialized explanations. As for your words in the review "We learned about life in Japan", I suppose you mean that I talked about my family and religious customs. Especially, I'll never forget that you expressed hearty condolences to my lost of father's passing. Let me add one more comment. I found two Canadians, modest and decent.
“Very knowledgeable local guide”
Hi Shun-San was a pleasure to work with, very detail oriented before our arrival to Japan so we had a plan of what we would be seeing. We toured Matsue Castle, walked to old town. Went to a Samarai house and had the local special soba noodles. In the afternoon we went to Adachi Museum, a spectacular place! Overall, I would highly recommend. He was prepared, had great stories and knowledge or the area, a pleasure to work with. This area shouldn’t be missed.

Since the weather was bad on the day, I supposed you couldn't have felt truly satisfied. However, Shimane is one of the least-unvisited prefectures in Japan, still largely undiscovered by international tourists. I wish you would visit this area again. Thank you, Cori-san.

Shun was a great guide with excellent knowledge of his surrounding. We appreciated his choices of what we saw. The Tea Ceramony was one of the highlights of the culture that we witnessed. My recommendation for lunch, "Izumo soba noodles", were they good ? Traditional style tea ceremony, was it actually enjoyable? However, I'm jealous, you are incredibly nice family. You told me about your experiences of other travels. How interesting! I realized again that meeting people like you is one of the perks of guide. I'd love to see you again.
