Here at Kasuisai Temple, you can have an authentic Buddhist Zen experience for a day.
Kasuisai Temple belongs to the Soto style of Zen Buddhism. It is located in the city of Fukuori (my hometown), Shizuoka prefecture. It was founded 600 years ago and has a traditional architectonic design worthy to see; a Zuiryukau (guesthouse) and a Tosu (toilet), and has been designated a National Cultural Property.
Kakegawa Station (taken by JR bullet train *stop only Kodama express)
Sit with you legs crossed for 30 minutes in the Buddhist hall (it is important not to move during meditation), and when the time is right, the monk will smack you on the shoulder with a Keisaku (wooden stick).
Shakyou, or Sutra writing, is the traditional Japanese way of writing Kanjis (Chinese characters) on Washi (Japanese paper). Experience traditional Japanese calligraphy yourself using a brush pen and Indian ink.
Buddhist monks traditionally eat a Buddhist diet. Buddhism strictly prohibits to kill or eat animals, so is completely vegetarian, but very tasty and beautiful.

“What a fantastic day!”
Motoyuki was waiting for us at the port as agreed. He took us to a beautiful out of the tourist crowd location in a tea plantation where we experienced Mt. Fuji at it’s best. He then took us to see Otodome No Taki waterfalls fed by Mt. Fuji. We had the opportunity to taste local sake and of course a typical lunch. Lastly we went to Fujisanhongu Sengentaisha Shrine. The location was perfect to feel the local culture of Japan. We were fortunate to see the Sakura but shared the visit with couples taking wedding pictures, graduation and other family events. His enthusiasm was contagious and he has a great command of the English language. Perfect day with Moto!

(24 reviews)Thanks for the five-star rating and good review! The day was the perfect view of Mount Fuji. Our guides would be disqualified if we could not get through on such a beautiful day, haha. Find real Japan in a local city, I will guide you then! With great appreciation.

“Perfect day”
Moto was a perfect guide who planned a wonderful, packed day trip for us in the Yamanashi region using just a rough guide of what it is we were interested in. We were extremely happy and could not have imagined a better experiece. Highly reccommend.

(24 reviews)Thanks for a good review! It was a lovely day for the excursion of Yamanashi local sites with autumn leaves. Yamanashi has an iconic symbol as Mt. Fuji, but there are so many places worth seeing except for it. I am very happy that you found and enjoyed them. Please come to Yamanashi again and I will show you more and more!

Had a great day with our tour guide Moto who clearly knew the area and had a wealth of knowledge to share with us. Visited some great places (shiraito fall’s particularly enjoyed) and ate some lovely street food. Thanks Moto!
