Mashiko one of the most famous pottery towns - Walking or Cycling Tour
Mashiko prospered as the typical pottery town of Japan has become one of the most famous pottery town along with Hagi, and Oribe. Currently there are 250 potteries and more than 50 pottery stores. And the town produced a lot of famous artists such as Shoji Hamada who was the first living national treasure of Japan, and Tatsuzo Shimaoka who was also a living national treasure.
Meeting Point
JR Utsunomiya Station at the Shinkansen ticket gate.
The tour will visit the pottery Iwashita which has two climbing klin and provides an experiencing to make potteries, a museum of ceramic ware, an old house of ShojiHamada.
And also visit an indigo dyeing studio which shows a typical textile and dyeing technique, and Japanese sake brewery.
And to visit the biggest pottery in Mashiko town which has a plant, a memorial museum and shop which sell many products from artists.

From JR Tokyo Station, take the JR Shinkansen Yamabiko #127 for Sendai (8:08), arrive at JR Utsunomiya Station (9:01).
The transportation fee is ¥4410 ( for a round trip is ¥8820)
・A bus fare from the Utsunomiya Station to Mashiko is ¥1150 (for a round trip is ¥2300).
・Restaurants and fast food shops are available.
