This Newari snack is as old as Newari civilization. Kathmandu is home for Newar people who have their own culture, festivals and food. Until recently junk food from abroad takes its place, this is what local Newar people used to eat in the Kathmandu Valley. In Newari tradition we must eat dried fried fish and boiled egg to bring a good luck. So we eat them at weddings, birthdays, festivals or when a family is traveling abroad.

Tour Important Information

Ingredients for 3 servings:

1. Three big potatoes.

2. A cup of one eyed bean (it has to be soaked overnight before cooking).

3. Mustard oil or any other available cooking oil.

4. Garlic and ginger paste.

5. Turmeric powder, cumin seed powder, coriander powder, fenugreek seed, green chilies or powder, salt.

6. Black soybean if available.

7. Dried fish (small common carp) or any available.

8. Chicken eggs.

9. Coriander leaves.

Important message from the guide

I work for 7 hours from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm everyday because it takes seven hours to do a full day tour around the Kathmandu Valley.

“Very kind guide”

I had a walk around tour in Kathmandu and outing to Nagatkot, monkey temple, Patan and Bakthapur Durbar squares. Susan was very kind, went out of her way to accommodate my wishes- including choosing the right kurti, pashmina, haggling for the price of ceramics... it was a very enjoyable time and I certainly recommend Susan as a competent guide!
