With our private vehice we will discover the beautiful town of Ronda. Since the 19th century, Ronda attracted travellers from all over the world. In this period, the romantic writers as Irving or Mérimée came looking for its exotism. In the 20th century, this attraction continued, for instance with O. Welles and Hemingway, both spent a sgnificant time in Ronda, learning about bullfigting, due to the importance of the town in its history, hosting one of the most ancient bullrings of Spain.
At your hotel
The tour will start at your hotel, it does not matter if you are in central Malaga or in any other hotel of the Costa del Sol. If you are in Malaga or in the Costa del Sol, the journey is spectacular in terms of views, by passing through a very fertile valley, the Valley of Guadalhorce, and then when approaching to Ronda by enjoying the beauty of the several range of mountains.
If your hotel is located in Marbella or Estepona, the journey is also very nice, but, this time we will go through a curvy road, if you suffer a motion sickness, it would be a good idea to take some tablets for it.
The walking tour starts at this point, the convent of La Merced is a beautiful temple whose architecture will remind you to the typical Spanish colonial style. This convent is famous for hosting a relic, the hand of Sainte Theresa.
The Alameda is a very relaxing boulevard with trees, from where admiring the wonderful and outstanding views of the range of mountains of Grazalema. Ronda is located in mountainous area with incredible landscapes around.
The bullring is one of the oldest of Spain, and it is so important because Ronda is considered to be the "mother" of bullfighting in Spain, due to the importance of a family clan which introduced the vast majority of the rules followed today in the bullfighting.We will learn about the bullfigting, its history, its rules, its costumes, its main characters, etc.
The bullring belongs to a very old and reputated institution of Spain, the Real Maestranza, a riding school established by the Spanish Emperor Phillip II, that has preserved its codes and authenticity along the history.
Ronda is also famous for hosting one of the most spectacular cliffs in Europe, "the Tajo", a geological formation of 100 m depth, which is impressive. In order to enjoy its views, we will go to two different view points, where you will become astonished.
From the view points, we will learn about the buildings around and their history, such as; the Palacio del Rey Moro or the former convent of the Dominicans, where explanations about the Spanish Inquisition will be given.
We will enter into the old town, where some of the most important historical sites are located, such as; the palace of Mondragon, the Town Hall or the Church of Sainte Mary, which will be visited in order to admire its artistic styles.
The visit to this part of the town provides the opportunity to learn about the historical architectural evolution of this part of Spain, we will see typical Moorish houses as the Giant's house, some of them eventually converted in Christian emblazoned houses.
The Natural park of Grazalema provides a kind of spruce of the glacier period, which can be seen in Ronda.
During the visit to the old town, there are several restaurants where having lunch.
You will have some free time for you before returning to your hotel.
