About Tour Guide Yuka Y.
Hi I'm Yuka!
I'm a Japanese native that lived in Chicago for 5 years in my youth and came back to Japan at the age of 12. I studied Japanese culture, especially folklore, in University. My thesis was about Sumo jinku (the songs Sumo wrestlers sing on special occasions) and I reckon the best part of that was to go out drinking with sumo boys :)
I worked as a tour leader for an Australian tour company (Intrepid travel and World Expeditions) for 7 years until 2013, and simply loved taking people around Japan, sharing the beauty and craziness this country offers.
I want to be more of your good friend in Japan than a "tour guide," so my guiding style can be a bit laid-back compared to ordinary guides. I won't be giving you a standard tour, but I will be giving you a glimpse into Japanese life from a local point of view along with the historical and cultural explanations.
I am also a mum of 2 girls and would love meeting little friends from all over the world as well as grown-ups. I really enjoy sharing stories about raising kids with mums and dads from different countries. I have completed First Aid course for Children, Infants, and Adults with MEDIC.

“Tour of Yokohama”

“Fabulous day in Tokyo”
Yuka created our perfect day in Tokyo. She led my daughter (aged 14) and I around so many sights and was informative and interesting - we did not want the day to end. She made the the sites memorable and it was the highlight of our trip. And while we moved at our own pace, we saw so many things. She also helped us feel comfortable taking the subway. We have used guides in many cities and Yuka was the absolute best - a pleasure to be around. Already planning to book her again when we come back.

“Tokyo Treasure”
Yuka is an excellent guide! She paid close attention to the kind of tour I said we were looking for in our initial contacts - this was much appreciated. The result was that our tours were truly tailored to us. They were set up in a way that made sense in terms of time and transportation. Her itineraries really gave us some insight into the fabulous city of Tokyo and its people, customs, culture, etc.... Yuka is very knowledgeable, accommodating, her English is excellent, and she is extremely helpful - we would not have figured out the bullet train ticket system without her. On top of it all, Yuka is a kind, generous-hearted person with a lovely sense of humour. We fell in love with Tokyo and she was definitely part of the reason for this. We would recommend Yuka to any kind of group looking for a private guide in Tokyo.
