Viru gates
- I will you at the Viru gates (address Viru21) with sign with your name in my hand
We begin our tour from Viru gates of the 14th century and enter the city through Viru street as a local broadway.
Dominican monks arrived in Tallinn by the 1250s and founded their monastery and school and church, dedicated to St Catherine. We look around in the juiciest medieval path full of historical dwellings and enter the workshops of local crafters.
While walking tour we visit souvenir shops to make local tastings for free.
I would like to treat you by local special types of honey, jams, liquors, mustards and chocolates.
We talk about the Town Hall history. It is the oldest gothic one in Northern Europe
Town Hall Square houses a Christmas market, awarded as the best of 2019.
Town Hall Pharmacy - the oldest operating pharmacy in Europe since the 1400s, which museum we should visit
Cafe Maiasmokk - the most historical in Tallinn and dates back to 1864. We will also visit its marzipan studio and remember nice facts&legends about it.
Holy Spirit church dates back to the 1300s and remains the oldest original church in Tallinn. Nowadays it houses a Lutheran congregation, and on weekdays it is open for customers. I recommend visiting it to enjoy its nice baroque carving, the oldest original altar of the 1400s, and join a free organ concert (only on Mondays).
Marzipan is the major candy in Estonia!
But it is a useful medicine too!
We obligatory try marzipan candy and look at its molding!
According to the legend, this place gave birth to the flag of Danmark, the oldest in Europe. We will remember some of its history, look at the town spires from its viewing platform and stay in the shade of brutal Hostility walls between Upper and Lower parts of Old Town
Did not you know, that Tallinn limps, as its legs are different?
Upper and Lower part of Old Town are connected by 2 historical streets, which had strategic importance for the city
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is the Russian Orthodox Cathedral
It is open every day and free to visit.
It impresses us with its traditional old Russian style with onion domes, well-maintained condition, and hospitability.
We consider it a peaceful harbor, where you may come in to learn about local religions
Nowadays, we cannot consider Estonia a religious state, but Orthodox is our dominant faith!
Toompea castle of the 1300s is one of the best preserved in Northern Europe. It was built for a viceroy of the Danish king, and advanced by the next lords. Nowadays, it accommodates the Estonian Parliament, which is even possible to visit and climb the Tall Hermann Tower, house for the major Estonian flag.
St Mary Cathedral (or Dome Church) is the oldest in Tallinn and started its activity in the 1230s when the Crusades arrived to teach local pagans.
The church is partly rebuilt and has a beautiful baroque spire with a time capsule ball on its top.
It operates as a Lutheran Cathedral and introduces the richest collection of coats of arms of noble families in Northern Europe.
An entrance ticket is not included in the tour.
We will cover 2 platforms of a 1mln $ view per each, from where we enjoy the fabulous view of Old Town with fortress towers&tall churches and modern area including farming market, creative cities and historical suburbs
