In Lao language, Lamvong means “circle dance” that includes beautiful arm and hand gestures combining harmoniously with simple footsteps along with the slow music rhythm of Khaen, a traditional Lao musical instrument The Lamvong has its roots in simple communities who liked to dance to celebrate the rice harvest. From ancient times, villagers growing paddy rice celebrated harvest time by dancing around a central bale of rice. Lam means dance and vong means to circle.
