Meeting Point
Jinka Airport
- Depending on the clients interest, it's possible to pick up clients directly upon their arrival from Jinka Airport or from their hotel.
Day 1 : Arrival at Jinka AirPort - Drive to Turmi
Your guide and driver will welcome you at Jinka (Baco) Airport and start a 130 km (2:30 hours) drive to Turmi town where the Hamar tribe resides in nearby villages.
If it is a market day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday), you will visit a tribal market either in Jinka, Kako, Keyafer, Aldubba, or Turmi town. On the way, you will visit the Banna tribe village.
You will also visit a small group of Mursi people near Keyafer town where you will see women with a lip plate and body scarification. You may also see the Bull Jumping Ceremony of the Hamar (optional) or the Evangadi Dancing Ceremony (upon availability).
Overnight: Paradise Lodge Turmi
Day 2: Turmi- Karo Village Excursion – Turmi
After breakfast, drive west to visit the Karo people, who live along the banks of the Omo River. The Karo are one of the smallest ethnic groups in the Omo Valley and are known for their distinctive body and face painting using natural pigments. Visitors who are interested may choose to have traditional Karo body or face painting applied.
Return to Turmi for lunch. If your visit falls on a market day (Monday, Thursday, or Saturday), there will be time to explore the local tribal market. Later in the afternoon, visit a Hamar village to learn about their traditions and daily life. Depending on the local schedule, you may have the opportunity to witness the Hamar Bull Jumping Ceremony or the Evangadi dance.
Overnight: Paradise Lodge, Turmi
Day 3: Turmi - Omorate - Turmi
Following breakfast, drive approximately one hour (72 km) to Omorate, located near the Kenyan border. After a brief stop at the immigration checkpoint, cross the Omo River by traditional dugout canoe and walk a short distance to visit a Dassanech village. During your visit, learn about the community's culture, customs, and way of life.
Return to Turmi for lunch. If your visit coincides with a market day (Monday, Thursday, or Saturday), you may also visit the local tribal market. Subject to availability, there may be an opportunity to attend a Hamar Bull Jumping Ceremony.
Overnight: Paradise Lodge, Turmi
Day 4: Turmi - Arbore - Konso
After breakfast, drive to Konso with a stop to visit the Arbore people, who live in the semi-arid area near Lake Stephanie. The Arbore are traditionally pastoralists and farmers and continue to preserve their distinctive cultural heritage.
Continue to Konso, home to one of Ethiopia's UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit a traditional Konso village to learn about its stone-walled terraces, unique settlement patterns, and the carved wooden memorial statues known as Waka, which commemorate respected community members.
Overnight: Kanta Lodge, Konso
Day 5: Drive to Arbaminch - Return to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, drive to Arba Minch. Upon arrival, take a boat trip on Lake Chamo, where you may see Nile crocodiles, hippos, and a variety of bird species. The excursion includes a visit to the area commonly known as the "Crocodile Market."
Following the boat trip, transfer to Arba Minch Airport for your afternoon flight to Addis Ababa, where the tour concludes.
