Istana Karst Maros

The Karst Palace in Maros-Pangkep offers a stunning view of ancient nature. Its beauty lies in the unique combination of rare geological structures and the surrounding green landscape.

Take a boat down the Pute River

Taking a boat down the Pute River (Sungai Pute) is the iconic way to access the karst hidden valleys, directly connecting you to the Rammang-Rammang and Istana Karst ecosystem.

Berua village

Upon arriving at the village pier, you'll be greeted by a breathtaking view of a lush green valley. The village's structure is surrounded 360 degrees by towering karst towers, reminiscent of the natural landscape of Tam Cốc, Vietnam. In the center of the valley are vast expanses of green rice paddies, fish ponds, and wooden bridges connecting residential areas.

Besides enjoying the beautiful views from the rice paddy embankments, tourists can take a light trek along the dirt paths to visit ancient natural caves around the cliffs, such as the Diamond Cave and King Kong Cave. Some caves in this karst area even contain evidence of prehistoric human remains.

The Rammang-Rammang karst area boasts several unique cafes run by local residents. These cafes not only sell food and drinks but also offer a relaxing experience with spectacular views of the ancient landscape.

Rammang-Rammang Fireflies Cave

The name "Kunang-Kunang" in this cave is taken from two unique phenomena: Crystal Rock Light (Daytime): Similar to the Diamond Cave, the interior of this cave is filled with active stalactites and stalagmites that are millions of years old. When illuminated by a flashlight, the cave walls will reflect the sparkling twinkling light from the calcite crystals that at first glance look like fireflies in the darkness.

Real Fireflies (Nighttime): If you visit towards evening, you can see a colony of real fireflies flying around the nipah trees that grow abundantly right at the mouth of the cave and along the small tributary connecting to the Pute River.

Stone Forest

The Rammang-Rammang Stone Forest (often known as the Kampung Laku Stone Park) is a massive expanse of limestone (karst) scattered throughout, forming a labyrinth-like formation and natural forest park. This destination is located between Pier 1 and Pier 2 on the Pute River in Salenrang Village, Maros Regency.

Leang Leang Archaeological Park

Besides its historical significance, the landscape of Leang-Leang Village is visually stunning. Outside the cave, a giant black rock garden stretches across lush green grass, surrounded by majestic cliffs that extend into the area.
