Start your day with a visit to the breathtaking Kinkaku-ji, famous for its golden exterior that reflects beautifully on the pond in front of it. It opens at 9 AM, so it’s a perfect starting point.
A short 10-minute taxi or bus ride from Kinkaku-ji, visit Ryoan-ji to admire its famous rock garden. This Zen garden is ideal for a peaceful morning stroll.
Head to the Arashiyama district.Enjoy lunch at one of Arashiyama’s local restaurants. Try some Kyoto specialties like yuba (tofu skin), kaiseki ryori (traditional multi-course meal), or matcha-based sweets.
Walk through the enchanting Bamboo Grove, which is especially breathtaking around midday when the sun filters through the tall bamboo stalks.
Just nearby, visit Tenryu-ji Temple, known for its beautiful garden and pond that perfectly capture the essence of shakkei (borrowed landscape).
Take a train to Fushimi Inari Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that trail into the wooded forest of the sacred Mount Inari.

Kinkakuji Temple and Ryoanji Temple are located far from the train station, so access by train alone is inconvenient. Use cabs or buses.
From Saga-Arashiyama Station (Arashiyama area) to Kyoto Station on the JR San-in Line: approx. 15 minutes, 240 yen
From Kyoto Station to Fushimi Inari Station on the JR Nara Line: 5 minutes, 150 yen
