The Siq – Path Through History
This narrow canyon protected Petra from invaders. Can you imagine camels loaded with frankincense and spices winding through here?
The water channels carved along the Siq were vital. They carried water from the mountains to our city for daily life and ritual ceremonies
The Treasury (Al-Khazneh)
Behold the Treasury! Some say it hid treasures of Pharaohs, others of our kings. The carvings tell stories of power, gods, and prosperity.
We will explain the Nabataean skill in carving sandstone and its role in trade fame
Street of Facades & Tombs
These tombs belong to traders, kings, and craftsmen. Notice the variety — it tells who they were and what they valued.
Our artisans carved tombs while continuing their trade; the city never slept
Theatre & Temples – Public Life & Festivals
Our theatre hosted performances for citizens and visitors. Festivals celebrated trade victories and seasonal changes.
Temples were spaces of worship, diplomacy, and even education
Colonnaded Street & Market Area – Trading & Commerce
- Imagine stalls lining the street, merchants selling frankincense, myrrh, textiles, and pottery. You could barter, share gossip, and hear the latest news from caravan traders.
- Petra’s wealth came from trade across Arabia, Egypt, and the Mediterranean. Every stone here has witnessed that history
Monastery (Ad-Deir) – Spiritual Peak
- The Monastery was a place of worship, meditation, and community. Climbing here mirrors a journey of our ancestors’ dedication.
- We will share Bedouin legends and stories about the site
