Itinerary

This itinerary can be customized to meet your needs and preferences. Send me a message with your requests!

08:00 AM

Meeting Point

Hotel Pick-Up & Private Scenic Drive

- We meet directly at your accommodation in Karakol. We load up into my classic Mercedes-Benz W124 sedan and hit the open road along the serene southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake, framed by snow-capped Tien Shan peaks and deep blue waters.

09:10 AM

Jeti-Ögüz Red Rocks & Panoramic Ridge Walk

Our first landmark stop is the legendary Jeti-Ögüz ("Seven Bulls") red sandstone cliffs and Broken Heart Rock. Instead of taking a standard roadside photo, we take a gentle 15-minute walk up to an elevated panoramic ridge for an unobstructed view over the entire valley, red rock formations, and dense evergreen forests.

11:00 AM

Martian Landscapes of Skazka (Fairy Tale) Canyon

We pull into Skazka Canyon, a surreal world of vibrant red, ochre, and yellow clay formations. I will lead you through a winding labyrinth of rock ridges that look like dragons and castles, taking you up to a high vantage point where the red canyon walls contrast against the deep blue backdrop of Issyk-Kul Lake.

01:00 PM

Authentic Local Lunch at AIST Guest House (Tamga)

We pause in Tamga village for a relaxed midday break at AIST Guest House & Cafe. Enjoy freshly cooked regional dishes (like hearty Lagman, Manty, or local trout and crisp salads) served in a quiet, welcoming garden atmosphere paired with hot local tea and homemade jams.

02:10 PM

Optional Experience: Traditional Eagle Hunting Demonstration (Salburun)

(Optional seasonal add-on near Bokonbaevo)

Meet an authentic Kyrgyz eagle hunter (Berkutchi) to discover the ancient nomadic art of falconry passed down through generations. Watch an impressive hunting demonstration in the wild open terrain, learn how these magnificent golden eagles are trained, and hold the bird for an up-close photo.

03:30 PM

Into Barskoon Gorge & Soviet Space History

We drive up into the dramatic, forest-covered Barskoon Gorge along a historic route once used by ancient Silk Road caravans. We make a stop at the unique Yuri Gagarin stone monument to hear why the first human in space chose this high-altitude gorge to rest and recover after his legendary 1961 flight.

04:20 PM

Alpine Hike to the Barskoon Waterfalls

We embark on a scenic pine-forest hike up toward the impressive Tears of a Snow Leopard and Manas Cup waterfalls. The crisp mountain air, towering Tien Shan fir trees, and rushing glacier melt make this one of the most refreshing walks of the day.

05:40 PM

Wild Beach Refreshment on the South Shore

On our return leg toward Karakol, we turn off to a private, uncrowded wild beach on the edge of Issyk-Kul. Unwind on the quiet shoreline, soak in the mountain reflections, or take a cool, refreshing dip in the world's second-largest alpine lake (weather permitting!).

07:00 PM

Return to Karakol & Hotel Drop-Off

We wrap up the trip with a comfortable evening drive back to Karakol, dropping you off directly at your hotel or guest house in time for dinner.

Ending Point

Hotel Drop-off in Karakol (07:00 PM): Direct drop-off back at your hotel or guest house in Karakol, or a preferred central restaurant location in town for dinner.

About Tour Guide Nurdin M.

Hi, I’m Nurdin!

I’ve spent years capturing the soul of Kyrgyzstan on canvas as a professional oil painter, and now I want to show it to you in person.

My tours for solo travelers are about more than just sightseeing; I aim to be your local friend and guardian on the road. Whether we’re navigating remote mountain passes or exploring hidden valleys, I’ve got your back, ensuring you feel safe and supported every step of the way.

As we explore, I use my artist’s eye for light and composition to take stunning photos of you and the landscape, so you can put the phone away and just soak in the view. Let’s find the 'hidden frames' of Kyrgyzstan together!

Reviews

“A perfect week with an amazing local guide”

We cannot recommend Nurdin highly enough. From the moment we engaged with him he was extremely responsive, comprehensive and helpful - assisting us to plan out our own unique and unforgettable itinerary in Kyrgyzstan. Even through our own logistical challenges, date changes and special needs, Nurdin was always a reliable port of call. Throughout our week in Kyrgyzstan he consistently went above and beyond to ensure we had the safest, easiest and most memorable trip possible, and his authentic local knowledge of the country, culture and natural environment really elevated our experience beyond what you’d get through a more generic tour booking. Nurdin is also a painter, with a curious artistic eye and an easygoing, gentle nature that really complements the beauty of Kyrgyzstan. We will definitely go with Nurdin again, and give him the highest praise as a guide. Thank you Nurdin!

Hi Gavin, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and generous review! It was an absolute pleasure guiding you and your family through Kyrgyzstan. It was a true honor for me to meet such wonderful human beings and beautiful souls. A special shout-out to your father—reaching the pass at over 4,000 meters elevation was incredible! He is a true hero in my eyes and inspired us all on the trail. I’m so glad we were able to navigate the schedule changes smoothly and craft an itinerary that felt unique and memorable for you. Hearing that my perspective as an artist and local guide added a special touch to your connection with our mountains and culture truly means the world to me. Thank you again for your trust and kind words. You and your family are always welcome back in Kyrgyzstan—I’d be honored to guide you on another trek anytime! Warm regards, Nurdin
