Cathedral
The cathedral was designed by the Portuguese civil engineer Marcial Simões de Freitas e Costa, then a railway director. He designed the church pro bono for the Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques (Now Maputo).
The foundation stone for the construction of the church was laid on June 28, 1936, and is located inside the narthex and inscribed by the Bishop of Mozambique and Cape Verde, D. Rafael Maria da Asunção. Construction on the cathedral was completed in 1944.
Samora Machael Statue
samora Machael was the first president of Mozambique soon after Independence, his statue is located at the Independence square opposite to the Cathedral.
The iron house
It was a house made of iron and it was built in Belgium and shipped to Maputo for the Prime Minister. But unfortunately because of the hot temperatures in Maputo the Minister could live in the house.
Tunduro Botanical Garden
The Tunduru Gardens is public park and garden in downtown Maputo, Mozambique. It was designed in 1885 by British gardener Thomas Honney
There are thousands of fruit bats nesting & breeding in this garden.
Central Market
It is the market which was built in 1901, The Mercado Central de Maputo (the Maputo Central Market in English) is a market in the center of Mozambique’s capital city of Maputo. It is well-known for its beautiful design.
Train Station
The first train station in Maputo, then known as Lourenço Marques, was a modest structure, built of wood and zinc, and inaugurated in 1895 by Paul Kruger, President of the South African Republic.
It is today rated as one of the top 10 beautiful railway station in the World.
Fotress
The Fort Nossa Senhora da Conceição of Lourenço Marques, nowadays known as the Maputo Fortress represents one of the main historical monuments of the city of Maputo, former Lourenço Marques, in Mozambique. It has a square floor plan, built in reddish stone masonry.
