Meeting Point

Juliusz Słowacki Theatre

- Address: plac Świętego Ducha 1 Start your walk at this Baroque-Eclectic masterpiece. Inspired by the Paris Opera, it was built in 1893 and served as the epicenter of the "Young Poland" art movement. Even if you aren't seeing a play, the facade—adorned with sculptures and ornate carvings—is one of the most photographed spots in the city.

Florian Gate & Floriańska Street

Walk a few steps to the Florian Gate, the only remaining main gate of the city's medieval defensive walls. Passing through it, you enter Floriańska Street, part of the "Royal Route." This bustling street is lined with historic townhouses, boutiques, and the famous Jama Michalika cafe, where the city’s bohemians used to gather.

Princes Czartoryski Museum

Address: Pijarska 15 (just off Floriańska)

This is Poland’s oldest museum and a world-class treasury. Its "crown jewel" is Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine. The collection also includes works by Rembrandt and a vast array of royal memorabilia, weaponry, and tapestries.

Main Market Square (Old Town)

As you emerge from Floriańska, you enter one of the largest medieval town squares in Europe. This 13th-century space is the heart of Kraków, filled with flower sellers, horse-drawn carriages, and street performers.

St. Mary’s Basilica

Dominating the corner of the square, this brick Gothic church is famous for two things:

The Hejnał Mariacki: The bugle call played every hour from the taller tower that stops abruptly (to commemorate a trumpeter shot during a Mongol invasion).

The Veit Stoss Altarpiece: The largest Gothic altarpiece in the world, carved from lime wood.

Kraków Cloth Hall (Sukiennice)

Sitting right in the center of the square, this Renaissance "mall" was once a major center for international trade in the 15th century. Today, you can walk through the ground floor to buy traditional Polish amber, lace, and wood carvings.

Eros Bendato ("The Head")

Located just outside the Town Hall Tower on the square, this massive, hollow bronze head lies on its side. Created by the famous Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj, it represents "Love Blinded." It has become a favorite meeting spot and a quirky contrast to the surrounding medieval architecture.

Wawel Hill

Follow Grodzka Street south to reach the limestone outcrop overlooking the Vistula River. Wawel Hill is the soul of Poland.

The Cathedral: Where Polish kings were crowned and buried.

The Royal Castle: Featuring a stunning Italianate courtyard and the famous Dragon’s Den (Smocza Jama) at the foot of the hill.

Ending Point

Wawel Castle Hill
