About Tour Guide Mike F.
I sold my business 15 years ago and my wife and I decided to relocate to Charleston, SC. We had visited several times and were immediately struck with the beauty and charm of the wonderful city. But just as important we were so impressed with the friendliness of the people here. After serving on several community and charity boards I decided to become a licensed city guide and passed the rather rigorous exam.
I then designed my tours to give people a comprehensive knowledge of the history of the city as well as what it’s like living here today. My walking tour is of the Charlestonwne neighborhood, located at the very southern tip of the peninsula. It includes 8 of the 10 largest homes on Charleston, the original walled city, White Point Gardens, rainbow row, the high battery and several wonderful old churches and museum homes.
I love meeting new people and telling them the story of this great city and I’m the preferred guide for many of Charleston’s finest hotels. Hope to have an opportunity to give you a great tour here in Charleston.

Historic Walking Tour in the Charlestowne neighborhood
The historic walking tour takes place in the Charlestowne neighborhood, at the very southern end of the penninsula. There you will find 8 of the 10 largest homes in Charleston including, the William Mansion, at 25,000 square feet the largest home in Charleston. Your will also see the original walled city, White Point Gardens, the high battery where you will hear about the Civil War and the Revolutionary War, Rainbow Row, some wonderful museum homes and St Michaels church cir. 1682.
Plantation Tour at Middleton Place from Charleston
The tour will begin with a short drive through Charleston's Old and Historic District where you will see the Williams mansion, at 25,000 sq. ft. the largest home in Charleston, White Point Gardens and more. Then on to Middleton Place Plantation, the most authentic of Charleston's publicly accessible plantations. Middleton Place is the home of America's first formal gardens, an authentic home cir. 1705 and some of America's most important early settlers.

Historic Walking Tour in the Charlestowne neighborhood
“Not impressed”
First of all, Mike was 10 minutes late for a 2-he tour. I had to call him to make sure he was coming. Secondly, we booked and paid for a private tour ‘only you and your group’. We chose this very purposefully. It is our preference. Imagine our surprise when the reason he was late was that he was picking up 2 more people. To be clear, the other couple were lovely. But not the point. Private does not include another couple. The tour itself was fine. I did not need to hear about the parties that he attends and how much they cost. We wanted the history. Not the present day. Then at the end of the tour, Mike puts the 4 of us in his vehicle in the heat of the day (not turned on), while he talks to someone. If you are looking for someone who name drops, talks about the prestigious parties and how much they cost, stops what he is saying and talks to other people outside the not-so-private tour, Mike is your guy. We book private tours all over the world when we travel. We love the personalization and are happy to pay extra. This was not at all what we ordered, messaged about and paid for. We are very disappointed.

(1 reviews)Obviously I'm very disappointed to see this revie. That said, everything included in my offering was included in this tour. As this person said the tour was "fine". It's important to understand that in my tour, amongst many other things I speak about what it's like to live here today and today we have some wonderful and generous people that raise money by entertaining. Much of this is done to support our preservation movement They do magnificent work and it's surprising to me that someone would be offended by hearing about it. Also, as a 25 year resident of this neighborhood I run into friends and neighbors during my tour and it would be considered rude to not acknowledge them as we pass. Again, it's surprising to me that someone would find that offensive. Finally, this is a beautiful wonderful city and it's my mission to help everyone understand how special it is. If anyone is unhappy with my tour for any reason I would absolutely support a refund.
