St. Roch's Cemetery: Unique Tombs, Outside and Inside
This late 19th Century neighborhood cemetery was established for German immigrants and includes every type of New Orleans tomb architecture and construction -- simple and low-cost "wall ovens", elaborate family tombs, and massive society tombs housing hundreds of "residents." Your guide will explain how and why they were built, and how they render flesh into bone quickly and efficiently in the uniquely New Orleans style.
Chalmette National Cemetery: Wars and Remembrance
Located on the site of the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, Chalmette National Cemetery was established in 1864 during the Civil War as a burial ground for the dead of the Union Army and Navy. Today, there are 14,000 graves of US service members from all wars. Our visit to this solemn and beautiful place includes a tour of the battleground where Andrew Jackson and his ragtag American army of 2,000 men defeated a huge British invasion force in the climactic final battle of the War of 1812.
Coffee and beignets at Morning Call Coffee Stand
Coffee and beignets are on everyone's "must have" list when visiting New Orleans. But where do the locals go? Surrounded by 13 large cemeteries, the family-owned Morning Call Coffee Stand has been in business since 1853 and observes all the traditions associated with this world famous treat.
Holt Cemetery: A Potter's Field
Out-of-the-way, crowded and weed-choked Holt Cemetery ranks high among the most fascinating places in New Orleans. Starting as a mass burial ground for indigent victims of the yellow fever epidemic of 1872, Holt Cemetery has been the final resting place for generations of the city's poorest families. The hand-dug graves and poignant handmade headstones and memorials touch the heart.
Metairie Cemetery: Fantasies in Marble
Beautifully landscaped Metairie Cemetery features a dazzling array of architectural styles. You'll see Greek temples, Gothic castles, Egyptian pyramids among hundreds of elaborate above-ground tombs housing the remains of notable New Orleanians since 1872.

Welcome to my fascinating and beautiful city! I’m a native New Yorker and Tulane University graduate who fell in love with New Orleans 40 years ago and never left. I've been a professional guide here since 2013 after retiring as director of marketing and communications for the Louisiana State Museum. This second career has been an absolute joy. I get to experience New Orleans every day like it was my first day ever through the eyes of smart and curious travelers like you. That's why I always say my guests are my guide. Thank you!
“Excellent day in New Orleans with Arthur”
We had a very interesting and informative day in New Orleans. Arthur told us a lot of background information and both current and historical facts about New Orleans. We thank him for the wonderful day, which brought us much closer to this city.

“Great day in New Orleans”
My family and I spent a full day with Arthur, starting out for a few hours on foot, then driving around to major sites outside of the French Quarter; and having lunch at an out-of-the-way place mid-day. We had a great day. Arthur's knowledge of the city and its history is encyclopedic, and is informed by both a love of the area and its culture, and real perspective about the forces that have influenced it, both past and present. We learned a ton both about how New Orleans was founded and how it evolved in its early years, and about what it's like today. Our time with Arthur gave perspective to our whole five-day visit, and he was helpful in suggesting activities for the rest of our stay. Highly recommended!

Hello Frank, thanks for the kind words above. I had a great time too and it was a pleasure to spend time with your beautiful family! With best regards, Arthur
