We will begin our day making a journey of just over an hour along Route 5, the Pan-American Highway until we reach the coastline and cross the Chacao channel by ferry that allows us to reach the island of Chiloé. This is an island full of charm and mystery, discovered in 1553 by Francisco de Ulloa, then colonized by Martín Ruiz de Gamboa in 1567. With a history full of difficulties, between the trafficking of indigenous people for mining in central Chile, then the activity export wood to Peru, the island's history will not cease to fascinate you, a separate culture full of religious syncretism.
After crossing the Chacao Channel by ferry, we arrive at the town of Ancud and its fort, and we will visit the regional museum of Ancud. Founded in 1976, it has a collection of more than 4,500 pieces, distributed over 3 floors, and covers around 6,000 years of the region's history.
After our story page, we'll resume our journey west to meet the penguins. A magnificent road takes us to Piñihuil, a small bay from where the boats leave that take you to the islands where the penguins used to rest and sunbathe. In 1999 the islands of Piñihuil were declared a National Monument for being one of the places where you can observe Humboldt and Magellan penguins, along with many other birds in the area. There are few places to watch penguins and Piñihuil is one of them.
After our adventure on the waters of the Pacific, you will be able to enjoy lunch in the local kitchens that will offer you typical dishes of the area.
Return at the end of the day to Puerto Varas
Note: Navigation in Puñihuil is subject to current weather conditions and can be canceled at the last moment. Price: 8000 CLP / person

Hello, it is a pleasure to greet you. I'm Hanu, I'm a tour guide, graduate in tourism and entrepreneur, I have guided all over Chile, with a career of 20 years now. I specialize in tailor made private programs and I love this job. The vocation in tourism has to do with enjoying being a host and I love showing my country and sharing unique experiences with our visitors. The visitor is someone very important to me, and I want your trip to be the best possible experience for everyone involve. In Latin America, not everyone thinks like that, but I grew up with an education that taught me to try to do our best.
I speak English, French and of course Spanish. And today I am dedicated to offering daily excursions around Puerto Varas, but also programs from Pucon to Chaiten. For other parts of Chile I could also join you when planned in advance. I work aswell with colleagues and other micro-entrepreneurs to be able to offer all kinds of experiences. If we work together, we will gradually put together a program just for you.
