09:30 AM

San José de Maipo: A Scenic Andean Village

Our first stop is the picturesque mountain town of San José de Maipo, the historic gateway to the Chilean Andes. Founded in 1792 by Governor Ambrosio O'Higgins as a mining settlement, this charming village has preserved its traditional Andean character with colorful colonial-style buildings, artisan shops, cozy cafés, and a welcoming central square.

Surrounded by dramatic mountain peaks, the turquoise waters of the Maipo River, and lush valleys, San José de Maipo offers the first spectacular views of the Andes that make this region so famous. We'll enjoy a leisurely walk through the Plaza de Armas, admire the historic San José Church, and discover monuments celebrating the miners and muleteers who helped shape the valley's rich history. This peaceful stop is the perfect opportunity to breathe the crisp mountain air, capture stunning photographs of the surrounding scenery, browse local handicrafts, or simply relax with a coffee before continuing deeper into one of Chile's most breathtaking natural landscapes.

12:00 PM

Andean Wonders: Waterfalls, Historic Tunnel & Chocolate House

As we continue deeper into the spectacular Cajón del Maipo, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic, with towering Andean peaks, crystal-clear rivers, and breathtaking mountain landscapes accompanying us throughout the journey.

Our first stop is the beautiful Salto El Yeso, a picturesque 15-meter waterfall surrounded by native vegetation and rocky cliffs. From the safe viewing platform, you'll enjoy fantastic photo opportunities while listening to the soothing sound of the cascading water and breathing the fresh mountain air.

Next, we'll visit the fascinating Tinoco Tunnel, an abandoned railway tunnel built in 1906 as part of the historic railway that once connected Puente Alto with the mining village of El Volcán. Today, this atmospheric site is a favorite among photographers and history enthusiasts, offering a glimpse into Chile's industrial past amid spectacular mountain scenery.

Before continuing toward Embalse El Yeso, we'll make a delightful stop at the famous Casa de Chocolate, a charming artisan chocolate shop inspired by fairy-tale architecture. Surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens decorated with whimsical sculptures, it's the perfect place to enjoy handcrafted chocolates, local delicacies, or simply capture memorable photographs of one of the valley's most iconic attractions.

This scenic journey perfectly combines nature, history, and local flavors, making every stop as memorable as the destination itself.

12:50 PM

Embalse El Yeso: The Turquoise Jewel of the Andes

The highlight of our journey is the breathtaking Embalse El Yeso, one of Chile's most spectacular natural attractions. Nestled at an altitude of over 2,500 meters (8,200 ft), this stunning reservoir supplies fresh drinking water to much of Santiago and is renowned for its extraordinary turquoise waters, created by the minerals carried from the surrounding glaciers.

Surrounded by snow-capped peaks rising above 5,000 meters, the reservoir offers one of the most impressive mountain panoramas in the Chilean Andes. Depending on the season, you'll experience striking contrasts between crystal-clear blue waters, colorful alpine landscapes, and snow-covered summits, making this a paradise for photographers and nature lovers alike.

We'll take time to explore the shoreline, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, and capture unforgettable photographs from several panoramic viewpoints. During the warmer months, we can also relax with a light picnic while surrounded by some of the most pristine scenery in central Chile. As I share stories about the reservoir's construction, the region's geology, and the importance of the Andes as Chile's natural water source, you'll gain a deeper appreciation for this remarkable landscape.

For many visitors, Embalse El Yeso is not only the highlight of the Cajón del Maipo but one of the most unforgettable natural wonders they experience during their stay in Chile.

02:30 PM

Traditional Andean Lunch with Mountain Views

After enjoying the spectacular scenery of Embalse El Yeso, we'll begin our scenic descent through the Cajón del Maipo, taking in the ever-changing mountain landscapes from a different perspective. Along the way, we'll stop at a carefully selected traditional Chilean mountain restaurant, where you'll have free time to enjoy lunch (not included) in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

This is the perfect opportunity to savor authentic Chilean cuisine, with specialties such as grilled meats, fresh trout, homemade empanadas, and seasonal local dishes, all prepared with regional ingredients. Many restaurants also offer beautiful terraces overlooking the surrounding mountains and the Maipo River, creating the ideal setting to relax after a morning of exploration.

Whether you choose a hearty Chilean barbecue or a lighter meal, this leisurely break allows you to experience the hospitality and flavors of the Andes before we continue our return journey to Santiago.

04:30 PM

A Scenic Return to Santiago

As our unforgettable day in the Andes comes to an end, we'll enjoy a relaxing drive back to Santiago, following the winding Maipo River through the spectacular mountain valley one last time. The return journey offers a final chance to admire the dramatic landscapes, picturesque villages, and rugged peaks that make Cajón del Maipo one of Chile's most treasured natural destinations.

If time permits, we can make a brief stop at a panoramic viewpoint or a local artisan shop for last-minute photos or souvenirs. Throughout the drive, I'll be happy to answer your questions and share more about Chilean culture, history, and everyday life, making the journey just as enjoyable as the destination.

You'll be dropped off comfortably at your hotel, apartment, Airbnb, or any preferred location within central Santiago, bringing to a close a memorable day filled with breathtaking scenery, authentic local experiences, and the unforgettable beauty of the Chilean Andes.

About Tour Guide Andreas L.

For more than 30 years, I have dedicated my career to creating meaningful travel experiences and building lasting relationships with people from around the world. My journey has taken me from Europe to South America, allowing me to combine international experience with a deep appreciation for different cultures, histories, and traditions.

I studied Travel and Tourism in London, where I began my professional career in project management and international client relations. Those years taught me the importance of professionalism, attention to detail, and delivering service that consistently exceeds expectations.

Later, I established my own tourism and technology consultancy, helping businesses improve their services while continuing to deepen my passion for travel and hospitality. Eventually, I made Chile my home—a country whose extraordinary landscapes, rich history, world-class wines, and warm people continue to inspire me every day.

Fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, I specialize in creating private, tailor-made experiences that go beyond traditional sightseeing. Whether exploring Santiago's vibrant neighborhoods, visiting renowned wineries, crossing the Andes, or discovering hidden gems, I believe every journey should reflect the interests, pace, and expectations of each guest.

My philosophy is simple: true luxury is not about extravagance—it is about authenticity, comfort, knowledge, and genuine hospitality. I take pride in offering a highly personalized experience, sharing not only the places I visit with my guests but also the stories, culture, and traditions that make Chile such a remarkable destination.

Every tour is an opportunity to create unforgettable memories. My goal is for every guest to leave Chile not only with beautiful photographs but with a genuine connection to the country and the confidence that they have experienced it through the eyes of someone who truly loves calling it home
