Walking tour through the iconic spots of Lyon

We start in front of the monumental Saint-John cathedral and after taking a glance at Guignol theater (the iconic historic puppet of Lyon), we will head to Fourvière hill, to admire the unique Roman amphitheater and the magnificent basilica overlooking the city along with the astounding view. Then we will go down the funicular to explore Old Town and its traboules (passages between the streets), to conclude with the Lyonnais Fresco (painted wall representing celebrities of the city history)

Meeting Point

St John Cathedral
The tour starts at St John Cathedral, one of the most iconic religious buildings of the city, with its typical gothic architecture. After that I'll show you the unique square of Guignol (this atypical puppet witnessing Lyon's rebellious past) before we head to the funicular to go up the hill of Fourvière going further back in the city's history.

Once atop what is called the "hill that prays" by the locals, we will explore one of the most ancient archaeological sites in France: the Fourvière amphitheater, witnessing the antique age of the city built by the Romans in the 1st century BC. Right after that, I'll take you to another spot that cannot be separated from Lyon: the Fourvière Basilica and its immense golden statue of the virgin watching over the city, and of course the exceptional elevated view that comes with it
Old Town
Going down again with the funicular, we will wander through the charming and historic streets of Saint Jean district, dating back to the Middle Ages. Come discover the myterious traboules, the hidden passageways through the buildings, admire the magnificent Renaissance architecture and hear the countless legends and forgotten stories from what was once one of the most powerful trading cities of Europe through silk and print industry.

And last but not least we conclude the tour at the other side of the Saone river with the Lyonnais fresco, an incredible mural depicting more than thirty famous figures that marked Lyon's history from Antiquity to modern days reunited in a giant "trompe l'oeil" (French term that means "deceiving the eye")

The tour ends in front of your hotel, to which I will escort you back, on foot or by public transport if you prefer

- The whole tour except for the funicular, involves walking through the city, so make sure you have suitable and comfortable clothes for such a tour.
- Lyon, being filled with museums, if you would ever feel the will to visit one, I won't be able to accompany you, since I'm not employed by any private institution and I work independently.
-Please let me know in advance if there's any complication regarding the tour, such as a disablement, or if someone has an advanced age among you.
