Under the shade of the trees, we start our tour with an introduction to the greek mythology, the gods and heroes of the so called golden era, as well as the unique history of the Acropolis rock. The first spot that we encounter is the ancient theater of Dionysus. The children will love to hear fun facts about the life of the god, the Satyrs and the first tragedies and comedies that were enacted, right here in this very theater. On our way to the Acropolis we will stop by the temple of Asclepius, the god healer. The stories of the birth of the god, the Centaurs and sick people seeking healing will for sure astonish the young explorers. Of course, we will not miss the chance to visit the renowned Roman Music Hall, the Odeon of Herod Atticus.You will be thrilled to know that this is still in use, after so many centuries and hosts the famous Athens Music Festival, every year. Entrance fees (The ticket for the Acropolis costs 20 euros. The children are entitled to 50 % reduced admission or, depending on the country of origin, can have free admission. For further details you can always consult the official site of the Acropolis Ticketing System).
Snacks, refreshments, beverages etc.
• Avoid visiting the Acropolis at noon, especially during the summer months as there is no shade. If possible, always opt for an early morning or a late afternoon time-slot.
• During summer, it can get very busy at the Acropolis, especially when the cruise ships dock at the port of the city.
• Bring water, sun cream and hats with you. It is advisable that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
• Strollers are not allowed at the Acropolis. You must leave them behind at the entrance.
