Hamdeok Beach (함덕해수욕장)
Hamdeok Beach, located along Jeju Olle Trail Course 19, is also known as Hamdeok Seoubonghaebyeon Beach, named after the nearby volcanic cone. Just 20 kilometers from Jeju International Airport, it is celebrated for its striking emerald waters, tall palm trees, and pristine white sand, making it one of Jeju’s top three beaches. On the western end, a bridge stretches over the water, offering picturesque views. The beach also features a grassy area ideal for picnics and a scenic coastal walking trail. During summer evenings, many visitors gather to admire the night sea. Seoubong Volcanic Cone is particularly stunning in spring when it blooms with vibrant yellow canola flowers. A hike to its summit rewards visitors with breathtaking views, including Hallasan Mountain on clear days.
Seongsan Ilchulbong (성산일출봉)
Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone, standing 180 meters above sea level, was formed over 5,000 years ago by an underwater volcanic eruption. Initially an island, it later connected to the mainland through natural accumulation of sand and soil. Its massive crater, about 600 meters wide and 90 meters deep, was shaped by the intense interaction of molten lava and cold seawater. Once used for agriculture, the crater is now covered in a field of silver grass and has appeared in numerous films. The summit offers breathtaking views, including Udo Island and the iconic sunrise. Recognizing its natural significance, it was officially designated a natural reserve on July 19, 2000.
Seokjikoji (섭치코지)
Seopjikoji, named from the Jeju dialect word “koji” meaning cape, extends into the sea and is located just south of Seongsan Ilchulbong Tuff Cone. This picturesque spot offers panoramic views of the ocean, canola flower fields, and the tuff cone. A traditional beacon fire station, built from volcanic rock, stands on the hill, measuring 4 meters in height and 9 meters in diameter. Behind it, the red-soiled Bulgeunoreum Volcanic Cone is topped with a striking white lighthouse that contrasts beautifully with the landscape. Seopjikoji’s natural beauty has made it a popular filming location for Korean movies and dramas.
Seongeup Folk Village (성읍민속촌)
Seongeup Folk Village has been designated an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage site, preserving the traditional lifestyle of old Jeju. Unlike typical folk villages, it remains a living community where residents continue their daily lives. Many locals volunteer as guides, sharing stories and historical insights with visitors. The village also features prominent landmarks, including the Saw-leaf Zelkova and Japanese Hackberry trees, which are well worth a visit.
Jeju Stone Park (제주돌문화공원)
Jeju Stone Park, situated in Jocheon-eup, Jeju-si, was created to celebrate the island’s cultural heritage and the significance of stones in its history. Inspired by the myth of Seolmundae Halmang (Grandmother Seolmundae), who is said to have formed Jeju Island and the legendary Obaek Janggun (Five Hundred Generals) stones, the park embodies the island’s identity. It serves as a cultural and historical space, showcasing a diverse collection of stones that symbolize the foundation and spirit of Jeju.
