At your Malta hotel or at the Valletta Waterfront by the Valletta cruise ship terminal
Your guide will pick you up in a chauffeur-driven air-conditioned vehicle from your accommodation in Malta or from your cruise ship in Valletta's Grand Harbour.
The medieval fortified city of Mdina is Malta’s former capital city. As we walk through the narrow, winding streets, dating back to medieval times, we are led to the imposing bastions, commanding a magnificent panorama of the island. On the way there, you will discover different styles of architecture, including Siculo-Norman palaces and other baroque buildings of great historical importance. Time stands still in this ‘Silent City’ which is a film-maker’s paradise. Depending on the amount of time you wish to spend in Mdina, you may visit some of the following sites:
- Mdina Cathedral and Museum: appreciate the Cathedral's colourful inlaid marble floor, frescoed ceiling, a plethora of other marvellous features and Museum's fine silverware, paintings, rare coins, and prints and engravings by Albrecht Dürer.
- Palazzo Falson, a 13th-century mansion filled with works of art and exquisite decoration
- Fontanella Tea Garden, famous for its traditional homemade cakes and food, perched on Mdina's fortified walls with panoramic views covering most of the island
The magic of Malta’s antiquity will be explained at Hagar Qim Temples, Malta’s main pre-historic site and a UNESCO World Heritage Site (one of the seven Megalithic Temples of Malta), overlooking the wide expanse of the blue Mediterranean and the islet of Filfla.
From Wied iz-Zurrieq you can take a 20 minute boat trip to the Blue Grotto complex of sea caves which is renowned for its crystal clear waters. The reflection of the sunlight on the white sandy seafloor lights up the caves in bright blue hues. Alternatively you may decide to spend more time at the other stops or visit another site such as:
- Mosta's majestic dome which is one of Europe's largest and scene of the World War II miracle bomb
- the beautiful palace and gardens of Palazzo Parisio
- the catacombs or grotto of St. Paul
- the Three Cities where the Knights of St. John first settled in 1530
Walking through the vibrant streets of Valletta, Malta's capital, will allow you to discover the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights in 1566. The Order of St. John ruled over the islands for 268 years and left a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Depending on the amount of time you wish to spend in Valletta, you may visit some of the following sites:
- Upper Barrakka Gardens, with breathtaking views of the Grand Harbour
- St. John’s Co-Cathedral, including the Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, the Flemish tapestries and the church museum. The Co-Cathedral houses one of the most beautiful marble inlaid floors in the world
- Grand Masters’ Palace and the recently restored St. George’s Square
- the Malta Experience, an audiovisual show where Malta’s history throughout the centuries is brought back to life
At the end of the tour your guide will drop you off in a chauffeur-driven air-conditioned vehicle at your accommodation in Malta or your cruise ship in Valletta's Grand Harbour.
