I'm Juan — a National Nature, History, and Cultural Heritage Guide in Nicaragua.

I came to this through curiosity, not convention. Trained as a mechanical engineer, I spent years crossing the United States before retiring early from the Pipe Trades Union in Las Vegas. When I came home after twenty-six years away, tourism found me. I've guided travelers here since 2009, and it's the work I'm proudest of.

Every traveler wants something different: a birder after one elusive quetzal, a history lover tracing centuries of colonial stone, someone who just wants to feel a live volcano breathe. Seventeen years on the road taught me a good guide doesn't build one tour — they build as many as there are travelers. Before we plan a stop, I ask: what moves you?

Nicaragua isn't one landscape; it's a dozen, folded into one country. Twin volcanoes rise from a freshwater lake, cradling Ometepe Island. Granada and León have kept their colonial streets for five centuries. Cloud forest cools Matagalpa and Jinotega, where coffee grows beside Estelí's tobacco, and rainforest presses toward the Río San Juan. Pacific surf meets sunsets at San Juan del Sur; turquoise water hushes over Corn Island and Little Corn. One country, many reasons to fall for it.
