Rusenge Centre - Start of Mbwe Hill Hike

We leave Musanze town from Musanze Food Court / your hotel in Musanze and head to Rusenge Centre in Gashaki to start the authentic Mbwe Hill Hike. We travel together using public transport with your local guide a short scenic ride through villages, banana plantations, potato farms and beautiful thousand hills views. Upon arrival at Rusenge Centre, we meet local villagers, have a friendly briefing about the trail, safety, culture and what to expect. We then start the Mbwe Hill ascent on foot through local paths used by farmers. Along the way you will see village life, local schools, brick-making, traditional homes and friendly children greeting you. Your experienced local guide will share stories, history and explain the farming system. This is off-the-beaten-path Rwanda, not touristy, perfect for nature and culture lovers. Transport can be arranged as public transport or private car option.

Mbwe Hill Summit - 360° View of Virunga Volcanoes & Twin Lakes

We continue hiking to the summit of Mbwe Hill at 1,948 meters above sea level, one of the best viewpoints near Musanze. From the top you get a full 360-degree panoramic view of the 5 Virunga volcanoes Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo plus the beautiful Twin Lakes Burera and Ruhondo and the endless thousand hills of Rwanda. This is the perfect spot for photos, videos, drone shots and resting with fresh mountain air. Your local guide will explain the names of the volcanoes, the history of Twin Lakes and local stories about Mbwe Hill. You will also see how local communities farm on the hillsides and live in harmony with nature. Time for break, snacks and enjoying the silence away from town. Mukungwa River & Canopy Walk - Forest and Hanging Bridges

We descend from Mbwe Hill into the beautiful Mukungwa River valley for the second part of the adventure. This is a peaceful forest walk along the Mukungwa River, known for its fresh air, tall trees and rich bird life with over 30 bird species. We cross natural hanging bridges and canopy walkways over the river, perfect for nature photos and relaxing after the hill hike. You will see local fishermen, farmers working near the river and children playing. Your guide will explain the importance of Mukungwa River for local agriculture and community life. The forest is cool and shady, great for bird watching and enjoying Rwandan nature away from crowds. We use public transport together with your guide for short connections between trails where needed. This combination of hill hiking plus river forest walk makes the tour unique, active and culturally rich a true off-the-beaten-path experience near Musanze and Volcanoes National Park.

Return to Musanze - Tour End

We finish the tour in Musanze town at Musanze Food Court / your hotel in Musanze. From Mukungwa road we travel back together using public transport/private car with your local guide to Musanze town center. Total duration is 5 hours . Tour ends with optional local tea,lunch or coffee but on extra fees at musanze resturant but optional and time to share your experience.
