Meeting Point
Musanze Food Court, Musanze Town / Your Hotel in Musanze (Free Pick-up)
- Your guide will meet you at Musanze Food Court in central Musanze or pick you up at your hotel in Musanze town at 09:00 AM. The guide will contact you on WhatsApp the day before. Tour is 4 hours from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM with private car transport to Musanze Caves and Red Rocks Cultural Center and back to Musanze town. If your hotel is outside Musanze town(we can assist transport at extra fee), meeting point is Musanze Food Court. Private car with driver included.
Musanze Caves - 2km Underground Lava Tubes Exploration
Transfer 10 mins with private car to Musanze Caves entrance. Explore the famous 2km underground caves formed 65 million years ago by lava from Bisoke and Sabyinyo volcanoes. Walk with helmet, torch and professional caves guide. See 31 entrances, bat colonies, lava layers and chambers where Rwandan kings used as shelter. Learn about geology and history. Tour inside caves takes 1 hour 15 mins. Not claustrophobic - caves are large and safe.
Red Rocks Cultural Center - Banana Beer & Traditional Crafts Experience
Drive 15 mins to Red Rocks Cultural Center, the best cultural village in Musanze. Hands-on experience: participate in traditional banana beer brewing from peeling, squeezing, fermentation to tasting. Learn Agaseke basket weaving, pottery, wood carving with local artisans. Enjoy Intore traditional dance, drumming lesson and try wearing Rwandan traditional clothes. Support local cooperative - you can buy authentic handmade souvenirs directly from artisans. Cultural experience takes 1 hour 30 mins. Very interactive and premium.
Return to Musanze Town - Tour End
We drive back together with private car to Musanze town at 01:00 PM. Tour ends at Musanze Food Court or your hotel in Musanze. Total duration 4 hours. Your guide can recommend good local restaurants for lunch, help with gorilla trekking permits briefing, or arrange extension to Twin Lakes. Optional lunch not included. End of tour.

Tour Important Information
* This tour involves moderate walking - please wear comfortable closed hiking shoes with good grip, Musanze Caves floor can be slippery.
* Musanze Caves are 10-15°C inside - bring light jacket or sweater, even if hot outside.
* This tour is NOT wheelchair accessible - caves have uneven lava rock floors and steps, and cultural center has village paths.
* This tour is not recommended for those with severe claustrophobia, serious knee/back problems - caves are spacious but underground.
* Helmet and torch provided for caves exploration - safety equipment mandatory.
* Banana beer tasting involves alcohol and bananas - please inform in advance if you have allergies or you don't drink alcohol, we can provide banana juice alternative.
* Bring small backpack with water, sunscreen, hat - Musanze is 1,850m altitude.
* Tour operates rain or shine - caves are covered, cultural experience is partly covered hut, bring rain jacket in rainy season Oct-May.
* Children under 5 years not recommended for caves due to dark and bats, but can join cultural part at Red Rocks.
* Photography allowed everywhere - caves photography with flash allowed, cultural center you can take photos with artisans.
* This is a community cultural tour outside Volcanoes National Park - no gorilla permit needed.
* Please bring cash in small bills approx. $10-$20 for optional souvenirs from artisans at Red Rocks - baskets, carvings, pottery.
* Private car with driver included from Musanze and back - no need to arrange own transport except those one who are out of Musanze.
* Meeting point is Musanze Food Court / your hotel in Musanze at 09:00 AM - guide will contact you on WhatsApp day before.
* Tour can be customized for vegetarians, vegans - Red Rocks lunch can be arranged on request if you inform in advance.
Important message from the supplier
Available 7 days a week, flexible hours. For gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking, early morning start (6:00 AM). For Musanze Caves, Twin Lakes, City Tours and cooking classes, I can start anytime morning 8 AM or afternoon 2 PM. Please book 1-2 days in advance for tours requiring private car arrangement. Last-minute bookings welcome if I am free.
