Meeting Point
Musanze Food Court ( or Your hotel in Musanze)
- We meet at Musanze Food Court in Musanze city center, or I offer free pickup and drop-off from any hotel, guest house, lodge or in Musanze. I operate 2 daily sessions for Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo Tour: 1st morning session at 08:00 AM is highly recommended for crystal-clear panoramic views of Virunga volcanoes, calm lake, best photography light, peaceful traditional boat ride and fresh air, and 2nd afternoon session at 02:00 PM is perfect for warm light, sunset views, local village activities and relaxing atmosphere. After booking, please share your hotel name, WhatsApp number and location. I will send confirmation and I will be waiting with your name sign and GoWithGuide badge at Musanze Food Court entrance. If we meet at your hotel, I will meet you in the hotel lobby 10 minutes before start. The drive from Musanze to Twin Lakes viewpoint is 25-30 minutes. If you are in Kigali, we can arrange Kigali pickup at 06:00 AM for morning session or 11:00 AM for afternoon session with extra transport cost - please message me before booking for Kigali price. Wear comfortable shoes, hat, sunglasses, camera, light jacket . Tour ends back at Musanze Food Court or your hotel. I am flexible to adjust time after booking. Karibu Rwanda!
Lake Ruhondo - Boat Ride & Stunning Views
Lake Ruhondo is one of the beautiful Twin Lakes with crystal-clear water surrounded by terraced hills and Virunga volcano views. Here we take a peaceful traditional wooden boat ride for 45-60 minutes on the lake, enjoy bird watching, local fishing life and amazing photography. The lake is calm and very photogenic. Your boat captain is a local fisherman who knows the lake history. This is the most relaxing part of the tour and best for sunset in the 2PM session.
Village Walk
We take a short village walk near the lakes to meet local community, see traditional agriculture, banana plantations and enjoy authentic Rwandan hospitality. Great for cultural photos and supporting local. 30 minutes.
Lake Burera Viewpoint
After Ruhondo, we drive to Lake Burera viewpoint. Lake Burera is larger and wilder than Ruhondo, famous for its islands and breathtaking views of Muhabura volcano. We stop for panoramic photos, short walk along the hill and learn about the history of Twin Lakes, local farming and how the lakes were formed. 40 minutes here.
Return to Musanze - End of Tour
We drive back 30 minutes from Twin Lakes to Musanze town. The tour ends at Musanze Food Court or I drop you at your hotel, lodge in Musanze for free. Tour Important Information
* This tour involves some walking and light hiking on hills around Twin Lakes Burera & Ruhondo, so please wear comfortable walking shoes.
* This tour is not wheelchair accessible due to uneven paths and hillside viewpoints, but route can be adjusted for limited mobility if informed in advance.
* This tour is not recommended for those with severe back, knee or heart problems, but can be made easy and slow if needed - please inform me.
* Boat captain and life jackets are INCLUDED in the price. Traditional wooden boat on Lake Ruhondo with local captain and safety life jackets provided.
* Private transport from Musanze to Twin Lakes and back is INCLUDED. Free pickup and drop-off from any hotel, lodge Musanze town is included. 500ml bottle of water per person included.
* Best time for clear Virunga volcano views is morning session at 08:00 AM. * Afternoon session at 02:00 PM offers warm light and sunset but can be more cloudy - both are beautiful.
* Please bring hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, camera and light jacket as weather in Musanze can change quickly and can be windy at viewpoints.
* Tips / gratuities for guide are NOT included - optional but appreciated to support local community.
* Personal expenses such as extra drinks, snacks, meals, souvenirs and local crafts are NOT included - please bring some cash in RWF or USD.
* Pickup from Kigali is NOT included but available with extra transport cost - please message me before booking to confirm Kigali price.
* This tour operates in all weather. In case of heavy rain or strong wind, boat ride may be shortened for safety and replaced with viewpoints and village walk.
* Please let me know in advance if you have food allergies, dietary restrictions, health issues or if you travel with children or elderly.
* Children are welcome. Children under 5 are free but must be accompanied by adult.
* This is a private tour, only your group will participate. I can customize pace and stops.
-This tour is available daily, 08:00 - 17:00.
-Recommended start time is 08:00 or 14:00 for best light on the lakes.
-Boat rides are weather dependent - in case of heavy rain/wind, we can reschedule to the next available time same day.
-Please book at least 12 hours in advance so I can confirm the boat.
Important message from the supplier
Available 7 days a week, flexible hours. For gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking, early morning start (6:00 AM). For Musanze Caves, Twin Lakes, City Tours and cooking classes, I can start anytime morning 8 AM or afternoon 2 PM. Please book 1-2 days in advance for tours requiring private car arrangement. Last-minute bookings welcome if I am free.
