The FNB Stadium, also known as Soccer City or The Calabash, is the largest stadium in Africa and one of South Africa's most iconic sporting and cultural landmarks. Located in Johannesburg near Soweto, the stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 94,000 spectators.

The stadium's distinctive design resembles a traditional African calabash pot, symbolizing African heritage and unity. Originally built in 1989 and extensively renovated for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, it hosted both the opening match and the World Cup Final, making it the first African stadium to host a FIFA World Cup Final.

The Soweto Towers, officially known as the Orlando Towers, are one of the most recognizable landmarks in Soweto, Johannesburg. Originally built as cooling towers for the Orlando Power Station, construction began in 1935 and was completed in 1955. The power station supplied electricity to Johannesburg for decades before being decommissioned in 1998.

The Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum commemorates Hector Pieterson, a 12-year-old schoolboy who became an international symbol of the struggle against apartheid.

On 16 June 1976, thousands of students in Soweto peacefully protested against the apartheid government's decision to enforce Afrikaans as a medium of instruction in schools. The protest turned tragic when police opened fire on the students. Hector Pieterson was one of the first children killed during the uprising.

A powerful photograph taken by Sam Nzima, showing Hector being carried by another student while his sister ran beside them, shocked the world and drew international attention to the brutality of apartheid. The image became one of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century.

Today, the memorial and museum honor the courage of the young people who stood up for their right to quality education and freedom. Matchbox Family House refers to the modest matchbox-style homes that were built in Soweto during the apartheid era. These small houses became a defining feature of township life, as Black South African families were forcibly relocated to segregated townships under apartheid's residential policies.
