Khor Virap
Khor Virap - the cradle of Christianity
The tour starts with a visit to Khor Virap Monastery, the sacred place where Christianity was born in Armenia. Located only 40 km from Yerevan and less than a kilometer from the border, this monastery-fortress is the place of imprisonment of Gregory the Illuminator. During the tour you will be told about the ancient cross stones, the adoption of the Christian faith and the mesmerizing view of Mount Ararat, which can be seen in clear weather.
Areni wine region
Continuing on, the route leads through a picturesque area where you can watch storks' nests resting quietly above the houses - a charming spring and summer landscape. Here, in the wine village, where the autochthonous Areni and Voskeat grape varieties are cultivated, you can sample a variety of wines, from the home brew of the locals to the fresh sparkling wine available in the tasting room of the ancient cellars. Also on the program is a visit to Areni-1 cave, where a local expert will share stories about the discoveries made during excavations.
Noravank
The final stop is the Noravank Monastery Complex, founded in the 12th century, where you will be told the legend of its construction, trace the evolution of the shrine and explain the symbolism of its famous staircases. From here you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the gorge with steep red rocks, which will leave a lasting impression and allow you to feel the peace of this place.
